Welcome to Mrs. Barrios' One-Day G.A.T.E. web page!

I have been teaching in the One-Day G.A.T.E. Program for nine years.  It is a teaching experience that is unique and exciting.  My goal is for students to become better learners by challenging them to think critically and productively.  Science, Computer Technology, Language Arts, Art, Spanish, and Geography are the principle subjects we focus on in the One-Day program.  All of the activities I do within the curriculum are based on the California State Standards.  These enrichment activities allow students to participate in hands-on science experiments, utilize mapping tools in Geography, learn about Art History and create their own works of art, write stories, poems, and research papers and projects, and learn basic Spanish.
On a personal note, I have been married for 27 years to my husband, Henry, a photographer for the Bakersfield Californian.  I have three children, Julie, Alyse, and Matthew.   I grew up in Fresno and attended Fresno State but moved to Bakersfield 24 years ago.  When I'm not preparing lessons, I love to read and garden.
Feel free to come by and visit our classroom any time!
