Bathing at Asnieres Artist’s Name: Georges Seurat Date and Place of Birth: He was born in 1859 in Paris, France. He died of an undiagnosed illness in the summer of 1891 while installing an exhibition of his paintings. He was 31. Artist’s style or technique: He used scientific experimentation, breaking new ground with his tiny points of colour. Stiff, formal, and stylised, the work literally shimmered with light. Who influenced him? Though influenced by the Impressionists, he lacked their spontaneous temperament. What I think about his art: My favorite piece of Seurat’s artwork is Bathing at Ansieres. I think that how he made the water look so real is amazing. Seurat.
