Character Education
“It’s not what you have. It’s not how you look. It’s not whom or what you know that matters most. What determines the course of life, and the quality of your society, is what kind of person you are. It’s your character that counts.”
-Focus on Character
Here at Owens Primary, we will begin a focus on Character Education. Character education promotes ethical values which are called the “Six Pillars of Character.” These “Six Pillars" are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The goal of character education is to build in the young attitudes, habits, instincts and predispositions toward doing what is right because it is right, not because it is advantageous. We will teach and show our “Bobcat” students: The ability to discern right from wrong and the commitment to do what is right & proper. We ask that from home, as a parent/guardian, that you reinforce the pillars of character as they are introduced to the students. Remember, raising children & educating them is about developing good people who can live healthy, happy lives of purpose!
The pillar for the month of September is Responsibility.
· Do what you are supposed to do.
· Persevere: keep on trying!
· Always do your best.
· Use self-control; be self-disciplined.
· Think before you act-consider the consequences.
· Be accountable for your choices.
